MODELS AFFECTED

Those Lycoming TIO and LTIO-540 engines listed in Table 1 below.

Any field overhauled Lycoming TIO and LTIO-540 engine rated at 300 horsepower or higher that has a crankshaft installed with a serial number listed in Table 2.

Any Lycoming IO-540 engine that has an aftermarket turbocharger installed under an STC and has a crankshaft serial number listed in Table 2.

TIME OF COMPLIANCE

Within next 50 hours of operation or six months, whichever occurs first.

MODELS AFFECTED

All Lycoming Opposed Series Engines.

TIME OF COMPLIANCE

As required during aircraft operation.

Lycoming strongly recommends that all engine instrumentation be calibrated annually. All instrumentation for manifold pressure, engine RPM, oil temperature, cylinder head temperature, exhaust gas temperature, and turbine inlet temperature in the aircraft should be included in this annual calibration.

MODELS AFFECTED

All AEIO-540-D series, IO-540 (250 & 260 horsepower) engines converted for aerobatic flight or any other 540 engines employing a 2-3/8 diameter main bearing seal used in unlimited category aerobatic maneuvers. 

TIME OF COMPLIANCE

Visual inspections within next 10 hours and at each 10 hour interval of unlimited aerobatics or earlier at owner's discretion.

All Avco Lycoming Direct Drive Engines.

TIME OF COMPLIANCE

Each 100 hour inspection.

During each 100 hour inspection, Avco Lycoming Textron recommends the use of one of two methods for checking alignment of engine timing marks prior to timing magneto to engine.
